Miss Capital City 2022 Muira MacRae

Miss Capital City Muira MacRae promotes the Social Impact Initiative Body Confidence in Young Women to highlight the importance of showing young women that they can feel beautiful, confident, and strong in their own bodies. She believes that society puts a lot of pressure on women to look and feel a certain way about their bodies, and that can create a negative body image which has the potential to lead to many physical and mental health problems later in life. As someone who has recovered from eating disorders related to negative body image, Muira teaches about holistic health and recognizing both physical and mental health as steps to learning to love our bodies. She wants to continue sharing her story with young women, in hopes of preventing them from going through the same things she did. She believes that “beauty starts on the inside, confidence is having the courage to let it show on the outside.”
Muira is a senior at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, where she will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development this spring. She is passionate about helping others and it is her dream to work with nonprofit organizations setting up their volunteer and fundraising programs. Muira has had the opportunity to work for several organizations in the Twin Cities communities over the last three years. She gained experience with volunteers and interns working at the Minnesota Historical Society, working in HR at Sunrise Banks and she currently helps to organize and plan large downtown events for the Minneapolis Downtown Council. Coordination responsibilities range from event registration through the management of over 200 volunteers. She feels very fortunate and excited to be learning about and involved with the communities in which we live.
Muira believes in the power of storytelling and laughter and she looks forward to bringing that to the Miss Minnesota stage through her comedy bit. She wants to show people that they can find joy in even the silliest of things, and hopes to inspire people to truly be their authentic selves. When she is not making people laugh, Muira enjoys reading and writing, cooking, spending as much time as possible traveling, exploring and going on adventures, and spending time with her two adorable cats, her friends, and her family. She is so excited to share her story, her message, her joy and her laughter with you this June on the Miss Minnesota stage.

Miss Capital City 2020 Anna Bridgeman
winner of STEM Scholarship at Miss Minnesota 2021
Miss Capital City Anna Bridgeman is a senior at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, studying Biology and Biochemistry. Her dream is to become a practicing physician, specializing in interventional radiology. Anna is a pre-medical peer mentor and welcomes visitors to Carleton as a campus tour guide and admissions ambassador. She is certified in basic life support and mental health first aid. She works as a Carleton Biology lab teaching assistant and has volunteered at the Northfield Hospital birth center and medical/surgical floor. In her junior year, she did a biology research project on the use of augmented reality in biochemistry teaching. In the summer of 2020, she spent over 200 hours volunteering at a free clinic, helping uninsured patients access quality healthcare. Since beginning college, she has spent more than 250 hours shadowing physicians and other healthcare professionals.
In her time at Carleton, Anna has had the opportunity to get involved with a myriad of impactful academic projects. This past fall, she worked with HealthFinders clinic to assess the impact of tele-health on patient care, and presented her findings to clinic leadership. She also had the opportunity to work alongside professors and peers to present a seminar to the Carleton biology department on the lasting impacts of medical racism and the Tuskegee Study. Most recently, she had the opportunity to work as a student editor on Wikipedia helping to communicate science information--check out her newly revamped article on opportunistic infections! Anna is one of Carleton's Be the Match program directors, and, in addition to organizing campus-wide registration drives, serves as a liaison to the national organization. Be The Match is the largest and most diverse stem cell registry in the world. They work to pair potential donors with patients in need of life-saving transplants. Although over 70 diseases and disorders can be treated with stem cell and bone marrow transplants, 70% of patients do not have a match within their family. Registration is a quick and easy process involving a cheek swab and an online form. With this step, anyone can potentially help save the life of one of their "tissue twins." Her parents, younger brother and two dogs live in Fayetteville, Georgia, where Anna grew up. When she returns to Georgia on breaks, she likes to spend some time returning to her high school job as an instructor at a local paint and sip DIY studio! Transplanting to Minnesota for college, Anna feels like she found her home. Having performed in over 15 musicals in middle and high school, she used those skills at Carleton where she directed a 24 hour play. She loves the tight knit community at Carleton and is looking forward to getting to know her Miss Minnesota sisters as they prepare for the state competition in June. |
